#5 Find a rent in Dumfries

Image
Hello my little foxes!  Today I would like to talk about how I found a rent in Dumfries as an international student. It is really important for me to tell you that because it was a delicate and very hard process.  First of all, I didn't have the opportunity to come to Dumfries earlier to looking for something because I had a job during summer which prevented me from coming here. So I started to find something on internet with a lot of picture in order to have a real idea of the flat.  However, my first step was to find something where I could live alone without anyone like a hermit far from socialization. But quickly I realize that was a terrible idea if I would like to improve my English. And honestly also because it was impossible to find a flat in the centre, not too much expansive only for one people.  So finally, I change my key word on google and began to search " flat share" instead of " luxury villa for myself in Dumfries".  I cl...

#4 Nightlife in Dumfries

And good evening my faithful readers! This week I decided to talk about a particular topic but which is as important as the rest (or more) for a student who comes to live here (student or not) : The nightclubs. According to me, Dumfries has 2 nightclubs in the center that are easily accessible. I do not have a car here, so I do not know those who are off center, so I will not talk about it. The two I'm talking about are Chancers & Le Venue. They are both quite different, in my opinion, in terms of music and atmosphere. First of all let's talk about opening hours. The Chancers is open every day from 10pm to 3am while the Venue is only open on Fridays and Saturdays from 8pm to 3am. It is composed of a ground floor with a bar and a floor with a bar also. During the Fresher week I strongly advise you to go down for the UV paint its really a good evening in perspective. The music will remain relatively commercial and electro. Regarding the Venue, it remains from ...

Hi my lovely foxes! I'm sorry I was not able to post an article last week I was in Edinburgh to watch the defeat of France against Scotland at the 6 nations Championship ... Anyway (By the way, If you are a real fan of this competition take a look to the blog of my friend Paul ( or " The French guy" sometimes he is called like that, but respect the sensitive he is) about it →  https://eyesonthefrogs.blogspot.co.uk   ) This week I wanted to talk  about the good deals I found in Dumfries, places where you really have to go. 1. Restaurante El Fiume: My parents came from France last week to visit the country and we ate in this cute Italian restaurant near the river:  Pizzeria el Fiume. As the name suggests it's a pizzeria restaurant but not only. Their menu is quite extensive they also offer pasta, beef ribs, salads, burgers ... The only negative point that you should know is that you have the opportunity to eat down only in the evening, there...

#2 Let's talk about school

Hello Fox (Yes it's the nice nickname that everyone gives here) This week I would like to talk about a subject that occupies most of my day here in Scotland: the University (tadaaaa). You have to know that before coming to Scotland I had absolutely no idea how to manage my classes here, I had some priori because of the TV series, but believe me if you are a foreign student coming to Scotland study and you are reading this: THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. So I'm going to talk about my Bachelor's degree in Business at Crichton Campus in Dumfries. To begin, unlike the education in France which is free, here you have to pay registration fees that amount to about £ 5,200 a year (no there is no zero in excess). Unlike in France where the fees are almost non-existent (and yes, my Scottish friends come to France to save). Then at the level of the organization of the courses, it is also very different. It should be known that in France we have approximately 35h of ...

#1 Why & How

One of the questions that comes up the most when I speak with Scots is “Why are you here in Dumfries?” It’s true that it’s not Glasgow or Edinburgh and it’s much less known, but I’ll explain why. I come from France, where I studied after the baccalaureate for 2 years. For the third year of study, I had the opportunity to spend a year abroad in Scotland. The partner university of mine is University of the West of Scotland (UWS) and it has several campuses in Scotland including Ayr, Hamilton, Paisley, Dumfries, London. The distribution of students in each of these campuses is done randomly and that’s why I’m now in Dumfries. One of the (only) things I knew about Dumfries at the time was this is where Calvin Harris was born (oh yes anyway). In short, it was not a lot of information. This is one of the main reasons why I wanted to do my blog about my experience here. I would like to make sure that this blog helps future French students (or not) who will have the opportunit...
